Tomato-based Pasta
This is long overdue, but I thought this post might be a fitting post to kick start the new year!
This recipe is one I hold dear and have memorized over the years. It is probably also the one I use most often! This is the dish that got me started on cooking when I was younger. My domestic helper used to cook this for lunch for me and she taught me how to do it when I was around 10-11 so that I could do it myself, even when she isn't around!
I always use Prego sauce. It tastes the best. There are many variations but I stick with the standards, Mushroom or Roasted Garlic.
(For 1 person)
Ingredients:
1 rice bowl of dried macaroni/penne/fusili
100g minced beef/chicken/pork
Prego sauce
1/2 an onion, chopped.
1tbsp of olive oil
Some grated mozzarella
1 teaspoon of sugar
salt and pepper
I usually use one small rice bowl as a measurement for one person's quantity of pasta. So simply boil water, add pasta together with a little oil and salt. Boil for a rough 11 minutes or when soft. Drain and wash before serving!
Add olive oil to pan. Add chopped and diced onions and let it cook for 3-5 mins before adding in the meat. Once meat is 3/4 cooked, add in the sauce. There is no sure quantity for this so just add what is preferred or until the sauce is able to some what cover all the ingredients! Season with salt, pepper and sugar. Wait till it bubbles a little before removing from heat.
I know traditionally, pasta is meant to be taken with Parmesan cheese but I personally prefer Mozzarella. I put a bit on top of the pasta before popping it into the microwave oven for about 1 minute so the cheese can melt. I love the stringy texture that the Mozzarella adds to the pasta!
And voila! ready to eat!
This is just a really rough guide. I cook this all the time and most of my close friends know how much I love this. I hope you will grow to enjoy it too! :D
