Swedish Meatballs
Swedish Meatballs!!!!
Who does not love Swedish Meatballs??
Here's an easy recipe that is a great alternative to those expensive pre-made Swedish Meatballs that is available in all IKEA outlets.
This recipe has been adapted from videojug!
Swedish Meatballs
Ingredients: For the Meatballs
- 350 g ground beef
- 150 g ground pork
- 1 egg
- 100 ml milk
- 60 g bread crumbs
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp white pepper
- a pinch of cinnamon
- ½ onion , finely chopped (make sure it is very very finely chopped)
- 100 ml vegetable oil
- 1 can of campbell soup (Cream of Mushroom or Cream of Chicken will do)
- 3/4 campbell soup can of milk
- Some sour cream
- chopped parsley
- salt and pepper
Mix the ingredients
Spoon the beef into a bowl. Follow with the pork, egg, milk, breadcrumbs, salt, white pepper, allspice and the onion. Mix it all together with a spoon until everything is fully combined.Make the meatballs
Take a spoonful of the meat. Roll it around in the palm of your hand to shape it into a small ball. Give it a final mould with your fingers and place it onto a tray. Repeat until all the meat has been made into balls.Cook the meatballs
Place the frying pan on a medium to high heat and allow to get hot. Add half of the oil and let it heat through. When the oil is sufficiently hot, add some of the meatballs. You may need to fry them in batches, depending on the size of your pan. Fry them for a couple of minutes. Using your tongs, turn them over to fry on the other side. When they are a crispy brown, remove them from the pan, transfer them onto a tray and fry the second batch.Make the sauce
Discard most of the oil in the pan, leaving about 2 tablespoons.
Add in the can of campbell soup, followed by the milk and sour cream. Keep stirring under low heat until everything is mixed well and the mixture turns creamy. Season with salt and pepper, followed by the chopped parsley. Once done, remove from heat and pour into another bowl.
Some tips I've learned along the way making this dish. It really is a lot easier to just use campbell soup to make the sauce and from there, you can add other ingredients to make it taste better. Serve with jam of your choice as well!
Make sure the onion is finely chopped if not you will have bumpy meatballs and I found that adding butter to the pan while frying gives the meatballs an extra kick! Last but not the least, I saw on Martha Stewart that you can add fresh dill to the meatballs to give it that swedish taste as well.
Enjoy!
I think this looks great, but I'm Swedish myself, and I've never seen the sauce being this thick.
ReplyDeleteIf I were you, I'd try this recipe for the sauce next time. I hope you'll like it.
Swedish brunsås
1 tbs butter
2 tbs flour
4 dl (1,7 cups) beef or vegetable stock
1/2 dl (0,2 cups) cream
salt and pepper
soya
Melt the butter and gradually mix in the flour. Add the stock little by little, and let it cook for 4-5 minutes. Add the cream and some salt and pepper. Add some soya for color.
It sounds great. I shall follow this next time. Thank you!
